2006
Christopher Pledger, 25, has had several trips to Afghanistan and Iraq as a photographer for a national newspaper. He says his stint at The Times gave him the chance to be guided by some of the country’s best photographers. His favourite shot captures the sense of occasion as Tony Blair said farewell at the Labour Party conference.

2007
Susannah Ireland, 24, finished her contract in April, but she still takes pictures for The Times while also doing freelance assignments for agencies. Working at The Times was “an amazing foot in the door”, she says. She likes her shot of a climate change protester in a Gordon Brown mask because “it is fun and still a good news picture”.
