The man, the films, those blondes. Free DVD collection starting this Sunday
Jail-bound socialite Paris Hilton urged fans today to sign a petition to pardon her "mistake" because she provides beauty and excitement to "(most of) our otherwise mundane lives".
The 26-year-old was ordered by a Los Angeles judge on Friday to report to a county jail by June 5 to serve a 45-day sentence for violating the terms of her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case.
Hilton's plea, on her MySpace website, came as her lawyers filed a notice with the court indicating their intent to appeal. The document is required before a formal appeal can be lodged.
The hotel heiress urged fans to join her in a desperate plea to California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to keep her out of jail.
She wrote on her blog: "My friend Joshua started this petition, please help and sihn (sic) it. i LOVE YOU ALL!!!!!"
The petition reads: "Paris Whitney Hilton is an American celebrity and socialite. She is an heiress to a share of the Hilton Hotel fortune, as well as to the real estate fortune of her father Richard Hilton. She provides hope for young people all over the U.S. and the world. She provides beauty and excitement to (most of) our otherwise mundane lives."
It adds: "We, the American public who support Paris, are shocked, dismayed and appalled by how Paris has been the person to be used as an example that Drunk Driving is wrong...
"This petition is to ask Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to pardon Paris Hilton for her mistake. Please allow her to her return to her career and life."

I believe that paris should be punished and sentenced in jail for 45 days. She committed a crime so she should pay for...
Sorry Paris but you will suffer in jail... I heard that women correction is not easy to deal with....
good luck if you are alive,
Elizabeth , New jersey,
Sorry... . Paris who ?

Is it going to take a manslaughter charge to shed some real light on the underlining issues of this girl's inexcusible behavior? The Girl is out of control and totally out of touch with reality ! How sad that all her $$ buys such adversity. Ask the victims of drunk drivers if she will be missed for 45 days. I am sure the streets of any US city, or elsewhere, will be much safer if PH is not driving.
DS, Miami, FL USA
She SHOULD go to jail and really experience the 'Simple Life'!!
Josephine, London,
Why should she NOT go to jail? That's what I'm wondering... like why should everyone else who commit that crime go and she doesn't??? She should be in the cells now!!
Maasingah, St.Michael, Alaska
IF she's a normal person, she's gonna have to do time for the crime, she needs to take responsibility for her actions, I guess being rich and spoiled helps her...
Maasingah, St.Michael, Alaska
I think it most likely that Paris Hilton is quite looking forward to a week or two in jail. All those mind-numbingly similar parties from which she cant escape and here is a chance for some freedom. She will talk to a lot of interesting people she doesnt normally get a chance to meet, catch up on some reading, and have an experience she can dine out on for weeks thereafter. In the meantime she seems to be exploiting the situation from other points of view.
Henry Percy, London, UK
This is brilliant, beautiful and exciting - a good laugh on an otherwise 'mundane' Friday afternoon, thanks to the ever-entertaining Ms Hilton...
MS, New York,
Typical 'celebrity (non-entity!!) feeling that she is above the law. Perhaps whilst she is in prison someone can help her with her english. Her spelling leaves a lot to be desired.
Bertram A. Weedon, S'Algar,
I agree with my whole heart full with Mr Mulla. Hilton should stay in the cooler... why because she is hotel lover and beautiful should she not? She committ car crime, therefore 45 days is good.
Dr B Mawson PHD, Gambia,
Hang on a minute guys. Isn't there a space your hearts for people who are really really really good looking? Chiselled abs and great teeth don't grow on trees. When you see a fantastic looking guy, or a totally sexy gal walking down the street, be happy. And remember, when they combine great designer clothes with a perfect pair of shoes, they're doing it for us. To make this world a prettier and less dirty place. Thank you.
Thomas Martin, London,
Sure she should spend all 45 days in jail. If it were you or I and if we had already been in trouble for the same thing before, the Judges would have sentenced any one of us to jail time, loss of your drivers licencse, in most states and drug and alcohol classes, plus fines.
Why should she be any different?
Because she is in the public eye, she should be more aware of her actions.
Cyndi, Denver,
Unbelievable, stupid arrogance! Lock her prison door and lose the key.
Gerry Watts, Hobart, Tasmania, Australia
Who are these people who need her. They should get time in prison too! What has she ever done for anyone. I have never seen her support charity, visiting kids in hospital, speaking out for a good cause. To my recollection all she does is spend money, drink and in her "Real Life" show take the mick out of working, real people and their way of life.
Send her down for longer I say!!
Claire , Southampton,
I think she is a spoiled brat and should have the 45 day "Time-out" Do not give in to her pitty-potty attitude
Bert Lasagna, Charlotte, NC USA
who's your daddy now !??
rob mc h, paris,
Send her down. She got caught braking the law. Let her raise a petition but she should be aware that Arnie can extend her stay in prison.
gareth benfield, reading, uk
Paris, put on your big girl panties and deal with it. Learn a life-lesson from Martha Stewart - go to jail and do your time with grace and dignity.
Let your 'adoring public" see you accept responsibility for your actions and give them something real for which they can be proud of you.
Patricia Anne, Orlando, FL
Why Should Miss. Hilton get special treatment from everyone else? She says she beauty and excitement to "(most of) our otherwise mundane lives". What planet is she on? She desevrse a prison sentence she knows the law she should expect the conquences of breaking that law! Why should celebs special treatment from everyone else?

Paris Hilton is famous for being rich, and nothin else. If she has a "career" at all, its being a wannabe Britney or Lindsay. You can do that from jail. Talent can't be bought even if record deals can. She also is reaally boring and dull, the way she is predictably "troubled". If she could only be creatively troubled, make something real, maybe she would actually add beauty and excitement to something, but nah sorry, not. She adds boredom maybe. Easy target, begging for attention, zzzzzz. I dont see how she can expect the law to be selectively applied. Even her expectation that she would get special treatment is dull. I think the notion that you can be forgiven for driving drunk because you are pretty is classic. Like an old seventies burt reynolds movie.
katy , Johannesburg south africa, south africa
Paris who? That's a place in France isn't it.
She's broken the law, bang her up!
Her punishment is an insult to all those that have lost someone due the reckless driving of others!!
Chris, London, UK
Firozali - I couldnt have put it better myself! Pity its only 45 days....
Martin, london,
Absolutely disgraceful. NO ONE should be above the law. Least of all 'celebrities' who so heavily seem to influence the way young people think and act. If she manages to avoid serving this sentence, it will simply be conveying a message to young people that it is OK to break the law, because you wont have to face the consequences. I personally am disgusted at her.
Vicki, Derby,
"Where's the petition saying "send her to prison for longer"?!"
Here's one of the many:
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/jailparishilton/index.html
starling, Lancaster,
She commited a crime- fact. I don't care who she is, how much money she has, or what she comes from. If you break the law you should be prepared to put up with the punishment.
However, I do like the idea of being able to get away with a crime just because you add 'beauty and excitement' to people's lives!!!!
Sally, Newcastle upon Tyne,
This is all fantasticly entertaining. My life is especially mundane so thank you Ms Hilton for being imprisoned and giving me a very good laugh. Thanks must also go to the Judge.
However - was 45 days really the best you could do?
Brilliant.
Ben, London,
Madam, you are right when you say that public needs you but not driving or drunk or using cell or abusing anyone that comes on the way. We may not be celebrities, but we have emotion heart full of love and hate. For now, you have to take the sentence of 45 days and stay in the cooler. It will be a lesson. Remember Michael Jackson, hanging the baby from the balcony saying he was doing this because he loved babies? Well we do not need hanging babies or the bodies with the blood on the road. We pay tax to walk on the pavements safely. We have the same rights if not money or looks. I am ugly. However, my mom needs me and she states you see Paris and die but not Hilton Paris. She stays not in Hilton, she stay in the fridge.

Lex dur, sed lex.
It is high time so called "celebs" were made to understand that they are, and indeed must be, subject to the same laws as the rest of us. Send her to jail - to do otherwise devalues justice for all of us.

I think I can definitely live my mundane life quite easily without her clogging up the papers for 45 days, thankyou.

Hehe, this is the funniest article I have read in a long time.
I'm convinced that Joshua The Fan has a keen sense of humour.
Lena, Copenhagen, Denmark
Reflection and sobriety are not necessarily words I would associate with Ms Hilton!
Mark, Auckland,
Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! I must say, they could do a very entertaining series entitled "Paris Gets Banged Up!". A fly on the wall documentary series of Paris exploits in an all women's jail. That's the only way she'll bring joy into my otherwise mundane life.
Perhaps Nicole Ritchey can be "Top Dog"...
Julian De Cruz, Southend On Sea, Essex
Can someone give me a street address for the Paris Hilton? I want to visit there this summer to see how a judge managed to get an entire building relocated to jail.
StephBi, Dublin,

this one of the things that is wrong with American society today, "the great are only great because we are on our knees", Rancid. Great message to send if you think you are beautiful and are rich that you are better than others and not subject to the same standards and rules. This child lives a life of indulgance that the rest of Americans could never live. Why anyone supports forgiving this brat for being stupid needs to have their head examined. What happened to personal accountability? Where is MADD? What if she killed someone, would we say, "oh she's to pretty to be responsible." ? Would we watch with the hope that she will be in court and pull a Sharon Stone? As for our other wise mundain lives, excuse me little girl, my life is beautiful and satisifing, because it is filled with family, love and faith.
brian hayden, salisbury, MD
I think she was jailed for lying to the judge. She didn't know she wasn't allowed to drive. oh please!!!!! After jail, she should have to do community service and actually do something useful for once in her life.

Oh the sheer injustice of it all? Where do I sign? Please release her immediately - I shall take this all the way to the UN?
P Sharma, North Vancouver, BC, Canada
Come on she is guilty, what does it matter if she is famous. She deserves all she gets the spoilt little girl!
andrews, England,
bless her - she's a love - seeing how she likes herself to be in the public eye so much I think they should have cameras on her in jail, which I hope is a proper jail with her serving her time with proper inmates (in a chain gang would be a bonus but lets not get greedy) just like anybody else would do. For the first time ever I then may actually be interested in seeing her on TV - I may even make a charitable donation to see it! Come to think of it that would be the first worthwhile thing she has done in her life, ever - even if only indirectly. What does "celebrity" mean anyway?
Alternatively don't send her to jail but take her money away! I think we should petition to get her money taken away from her and handed out to the needy.

Viejita del Oeste, Albuquerque, New Mexico USA
Ok.......so we don't bat an eyelid when a "normal" person drink drives - we probably all hope for them to be fined/jailed/have their licence revoked.....but because it's paris Hilton there are PETITIONS???
I think if they want to make an example of drink-driving offenders, who better than someone who is in the media spotlight?
She should definetly not "get off" with no penalty....that's unfair to the everyday citizen that constitutes the majority of the public.
What would past victims of drink-drivers say? Oh, she provides the world with a friendly face, I don't care that she might have been the one who killed/injured me.
Well done for catering to the needs of the law-abiding public Arnie, you got one right!
Jennifer, York, UK
K-Jay, in your mind does popularity absolve you from guilt? If you like her so much, why don't you offer to do her sentence for her? I'm sure she'll be really grateful, maybe even your best friend too....
Doug Bates , St. Albans,
She really needs to get over herself. Being rich and famous does not mean she deserves special treatment and I'm sure many of us live much more fulfilling lives than her. I don't know anyone who honestly gives a damn what she does so find it quite entertaining that she thinks she brings people excitement in our "otherwise mundane lives" and that she thinks by calling her fans' lives mundane she actually hopes to gain support!?
Lis, England,
her wailing in public is sickening. i feel disgusted by her lack of humility and dignity, she really seems to be still very immature for a 26 year old. I think a stay in prison will have a positive effect on her and help her to grow into a responsible individual. it´s never too late to become a better person. Paris, appreciate your sentence and be grateful for it.

"By the way, we don't see much of the chihuahua these days."
A while ago, Paris Hilton's rat made the following announcement: "I don't like you anymore, seniorita, I'm eeloping weeth Jessica Seempson".
So now you know.
starling, Lancaster,
The sheer number of comments means she is right, we do need her... :)
Unfortunately, teenage girls do look up to her. She's pretty, she's rich, and she's popular. Who wouldn't want to be these things? Be honest. Just because she is ditzy and spoiled doesn't mean that girls want to be her, and that's the problem. BUT, the solution lies with the parents, not her or the media.
Gus, Los Angeles, USA / CA
Perhaps Paris needs "her" public more than they need her. If she is out of cirulation for 45 days or so they might get over her and move on.; Now that would be a good thing for all concerned.
Fred, Sydney, Australia
Does her dog get an orange jumpsuit too?
Kim Righetti, Upland, Calif. USA
She Commited a crime, therefore she should do the sentance. Just because she's famous, it dosent mean she should get priority. It's only 45 days. Us normal people would get alot worse for drink driving. I think everyone should stop being so rapped up in celebraties and realise that their normal people. Send her down.
Angry., Kent,
We'll always have Paris. Too bad.
Anthony , Oakland, California
"She provides hope for young people all over the U.S. and the world. She provides beauty and excitement to (most of) our otherwise mundane lives".
So sad that this pathetic young woman thinks she adds beauty and excitement to our otherwise mundane lives. Mundane lives? I would consider her life and the way she chose to live it to be a complete waste of existence. Now is her time to make a difference by making an example that drink driving is irresponsible and dangerous.
Sheen O, Knightsbridge, London,
why should she get away with it, just because she's rich
piggy, kent, England
Is it not wonderful that my beloved Times can publish an article like this, and generate so many literate comments, even from people who think this is a matter worth commenting upon or, even worse perhaps, believe that Ms. Hilton merits a comment.
Tom, Hong Kong, SAR China
I am amazed at the number of comments - 164? Despite the comments, one thing is clear: people are paying attention to her. Why? If there's no talent, not beauty, no brains, is the the fact that there are hardly any clothes? Or are we just fascinated by a person self-destructing in public? More bread and circuses please!
Jim, Massapequa, NY
It sure will not be the Hilton :)
But at least she will bring excitement to her co-prisoners for 45 days.
Good luck,
MK, Norman, OK
Oh dear, you know what will soon follow after the 45 days 'punishment', it will be 'my experiences of prison life' book, in the long run WE will be punished for having to hear about that piece of fine literature. i cant help but feel deja-vu, british sailors profiting from experience in the long run too?
only two solutions, lock her up, and dont let her out!
or
she isnt allowed to leave until she wins a spelling b, give her motivation for once in her life?
Michael, Aberdeen, Scotland
k-jay,
What you say presupposes that Ms Hilton's 'supporters' have figured out how to vote and will indeed recall all this when the next gubernatorial election rolls around in California.
That's a pretty big ask of them, on a number of levels.
I suggest that many of us are rather insulted that anyone would think our lives are so mundane that they provide any beauty and excitement to it. My walk to work each day provides more beauty and excitement than Ms Hilton and her fellow-travellers ever could and I pity those whose lives are so mundane that they have to rely on these people for their vicarious jollies. I can assure you, this lot don't give a fig about you, k-jay, and would cross the street to avoid you (if their platoon of goons hadn't swept you aside already).
By the way, we don't see much of the chihuahua these days. What's become of that (living, breathing) fashion accessory?
Peter, New York,
I love how the NY TImes lined to the Put Paris in Jail petition. I definately signed that one. NO ONE should be exempt from the law. And if a measily online petiotion can get her out of jail, then she is DEFINATELY being a bad role model for her so called fan base. If she REALLY believed she was a "Role Model" to people around the world, she wouldnt be out getting drunk, peeing in taxis, dressing like every other celebrity in their 1/2 naked almost reveiling clothing. She also wouldnt be steping outside the law and using her fame to cover up for it. She is equal to us and thus must be treated as an equal (altho some may argue she is lesser... but oh well :p). I hope Gov. Arnold stands up for the already made decision and doesn't bow to the pleas of one's meaningless fan base.
Dan Shier, Regina, Canada / Saskatchewan
I love Paris Hilton.
Fred, Bedrock, USA
To Simon David: She is a spoiled, rich child who needs to spend 45 days in jail because she can't follow simple instructions not to drive on a suspended license. No exceptions.
End of story.
James P, Sacramento, California
I suspect Miss Hilton will soon find out exactly how mudane life can be!
Richard, nottingham, united kingdom
please say this is a joke..
Andrew Jagger, Maine, USA
it'll be cheaper than rehab i suppose! watch out for lohan, spears, robbie, et al at a magistrate court near you!
ian, Staffs, UK
How exactly does she provide hope to young people? Hope that they never turn out to be as shallow, selfish and irresponsible as she is? Hope that they have the intelligence and guidance to lead a worthwhile and fruitful life where she has squandered her family's money and embodied almost everything that's wrong with western society? It's beyond me how her 'people' can defend such stupidity and recklessness on her part - I wonder what they would have to say if she had killed somebody? And another thing - she proivides beauty and excitement to our otherwise mundane lives? I don't even know where to begin with such a degrading statement.
It's about time she learns to take some responsibilty for her actions instead of paying some lackie to take the blame, and show those young people across the world that apparently glean hope from her feckless life that true beauty does not come from a bottle of bleach or that excitement is not living vicariously through some Hollywood airhead.
Nina, Bristol, UK
What is the career that she should be allowed to return to ?
roy wilson, chipping norton, uk
Hey, who says our "mundane" lives will not be provided the daily dose of entertainment even if Paris is jailed.
On the contrary we will probably get a day by day coverage of her jail term. Oh...I can just see the tabloid headlines "DAY 23: PARIS SAYS JAILED PEOPLE JUST LIKE US"
Amit, London,
She really needs to grow up...
Who does she think she is? please be reminded that her publicity came out of a sex video, and I don't think a porn star are NEEDED, if one dies out, out comes another one.
Putting out this petition is just completely killing herself.
and I'm sure no one here is doing it because we're "jealous of paris's pretty face" trust me, I rather have some brains.
K, Toronto, Canada
Im sorry but why should she be pardoned for her own illegal act? I say throw her to the wolves and be done with it. Why should the rich and famous consider themselves above the law?
Dominic, Liverpool, England
Better than jail, how about a 45 day media blackout on anything to do with her...now that would hurt.
colin, london,
She does to have a public. What she has a load of papparrazi making wads of silly money out of selling photos of this dim witted spoilt brat. People like her make me barf into my breakfast.
M McGregor, Tunbridge Wells, Kent
I think she's pretty. Why don't you saddos leave her alone? If people constantly talk about you and print your picture for having done little of real value in the world, how else would you regard them? The fact is - people do need Paris and her ilk, whether they like to be a fan, or to pretend that they are somehow 'above' her just because they are not well-known and she is. The Times comments are not immune. In driving you to post, she has added to your life, whether you like her or not. She has style. Deal with it.
Mr. Mitchell, London,
I am a firm believer in letting people get on with it as long as they're doing no harm, but her abhorrent self regard, her complete lack of perspective and her appalling influence on a generation of young girls should be addressed before more damage is done. People like her should be ridiculed not revered.
CP, Gateshead,
Sorry John, whilst that is an argument in itself, this is nothing to do with political correctness, for a start if it were a black muslim, it is extremely unlikely that they would be in the dock for drink driving. She was in the wrong, she should get punished. End of.
David, Durham, UK
What career??????
TERRY FREEMAN, LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND
What kind of hope is Paris talking about? Mundane lives we may live, we were thought how to wear nickers and respect the law, if these makes a mundane life, so be it. Drinking and driving is against the law, no matter who you are. Be a role model for once and show the world that you can take responsibility for your immature behaviour. Perhpas you mother can stay with you some days, she may learn a thing or two about parenting.
Sheila, toronto, canada
She gives us beauty and excitement? She's more likely to give us a rash. Enjoy your taxpayer's holiday Paris.
Scott Millson, Toronto, Canada
poor girl. It's so sad .I agree as a role model for the rest of us, no way should she be put in jail.
Please let her out Arnie...its only fair. It's not her fault she is is the way she is....I blame the parents!...anbd the colour of her hair of course....it was a blonde moment is all!!

I think Paris should go to jail. The only problem with this in our current society is that she will come out of jail more popular than ever. (Remember Martha Stewart) Unfortunately we are obsessed with this spoiled lady who is famous for absolutely nothing. I wish the media would vow to not write about Hilton anymore. She has no talent to keep her in the spotlight so without the hype, she would disappear very soon.
Kristi, Detroit, MI, USA
Paris' advisors are not dumb - imagine the book and film rights to 'Paris Does Porridge' (the British will understand the phrase) and the sponsorship deals she'll undoubtedly receive after doing her time.
Sure her public need her - like a hole in the head
graham, Midlands, UK
I'd have to say that I agree with Paris that she is being a little unfairly targeted. I heard her drunk driving level was only slightly above the legal limit. That is probably two drinks for a person her size. I used to know a college student who used to routinely drive very drunk. It took her many times of getting caught before she did any jail time, and the time was only a few weeks at that. I suppose she was better at manipulating the system and not getting caught during her "suspended" time.
This "suspended license" system here is out of control. You can get a suspended license here simply for not paying a traffic ticket on time, which you don't get adequate notice for or time to pay for in the first place. Then if you drive, which most people have to do, you can get thrown in jail for that. Tell me any other bill that if you don't pay on time, you get thrown in jail for. It's a bully system to get money out of the masses, and we need to protest.
Claudia, Atlanta, USA
This is a joke right? Has anyone actually signed either of the petitions?
Sofia, Birmingham, West Mids -UK
I think celebrities who milk their money from their parents should have no right to parade around on out television screens wearing their Gucci and Louis Vuitton hand-bags. She is famous for being famous. What good does she contribute to our lives? The answer is nothing. She should realise, that even with her enormous wealth, she is still a human being, albeit a very fortunate one, and that she is not "above" the law. She clearly thinks she is, and she should suffer the consequences of her actions knowing that she has made a mistake. Hopefully, a jail stint will make her buck her ideas up a little and maybe conform to "real life."
Greg Ellis, Leeds,
Poor Paris ! If her beauty & excitement are beyond question, then perhaps the Judge at her appeal should double her sentence to benefit the the unexciting , mundane lives of the prison inmates !
Julian Shore, Gata De Gorgos , Spain
The headline will read: "Hilton Checks In."
daemonchild, Reading, UK
Sadly, I don't think she will spend time in jail. Just imagine the trauma of the poor cellmate banged up for 45 days alongside Paris Hilton. The 8th Amendment of the US constitution clearly states that "cruel and unusual punishments [shall not be] inflicted".
Xollob, Darmstadt, Germany
Her public NEEDS her? ROFLMAO!
Needs to LAUGH At her maybe......
Jim, corona, ca
Who is Paris Hilton?
Simon David, London,
Why is everyone taking this insanity so seriously?
Elizabeth Freundel, London,
Let's look on the "bright" side. The moment Ms. Hilton steps in jail, the average IQ of both the prison population and the rest of the State of California will likely double instantly as a result!
Well, maybe not the prisoners...
Bonzo, Davie, Florida
I have never heard Paris say a bad word about non-celebratories EVER, so why are some little people bad mouthing her now? Huh. And Paris is way more popular than the governor - so maybe that is why he is sending her to the pen. It ain't right. Paris has 67 million hits on Google. How many people can say that? Huh. Arnie the governator ain't even got 5 million, so there is no way that he could beat Paris in an election. The President should free Paris NOW.
k-jay, Bel-Air, CA
Paris needs to bring beauty and excitement to the otherwise mundane lives of the California jail system.
Perhaps she ought to have remembered that if you're gonna do the crime, you'll have to do the time.
More than not be punished, I think that the judge ought to have made an example of her, as a "role model" to brainless people NOT to copy her.
Either that or run to Mexico, Paris...
Bob Vokes, Madrid, Spain
Well her petition currently has 19 000 signatures. The 'send her to gaol' has 36 000. I guess her public don't need her. They don't even seem to like her.
Phil, Brighton, UK
She may be a celebrity, but she is NOT above the law, and should not be seen to be either. JUSTICE MUST PREVAIL!!
Amy, London,
Paris & her parents still don't get it. They have failed her as parents...no humility + no responsibility = no charater or value to society. The parents allowed her to drop out of high school, to be the spoiled rich girl. They should have to go to jail with her. I would take more than 45 days in jail to change any of them. But at least it will send some kind of message to the young people that follow this kind of person.
Sue, Boca Raton, FL, USA
This woman is yet another nice example of one who belongs to the disgusting lot who expects the law to bow to them, who disregards the need to tow the line, who fully believes that money buys everything including the right to step over all laws. Short of shooting anyone - I won't be surprised if she believes she can do that and walk away cleanly from it - her traffic infringements will offer sufficient indication of her remorselessness. And now she's at her most disgusting again - getting her 'fans' to do her bidding. I think she is the hideous side of American Life and the less I hear of or about her, the better all our lives will be. She has done nothing constructive or productive. She has never earned a single dollar on her own individual merits. Like someone with a inferiority complex, she yearns for attention in the most debaucherous way - a sex video, which I'm sure she engineered it to be 'leaked.' She demands attention because she has nothing credible to offer in the real world
K Lim, Melbourne, Australia
Paris could use this as a time for grounding, reflection, meditation and humility. This may well be a wake up call to transform her life from one of constant sensation seeking, to one of meaning, showing caring for the plight of others and making a real difference to the troubled areas of the world. Her public exposure is a perfect vehicle for bringing attention to issues that affect the future of our planet and the lives of so many. At the same time, she may even be able to touch and inspire the lives of those incarcerated with her and change their lives around for the better. Love is powerful and healing, hate and anger are empty, negative and destructive. A lesson for us all. Love and light to all.
Brenda, Manchester, UK
Does anyone have a running total on the competing petitions?
If the "send her to jail" petition doubles the "free Paris" petition, is there precedent to double her jail time?
Richard, London,
calvin george from trinidad said give her a break because she's someones daughter !!?? ........ everyone is someones son or daughter that's how it works.
p.s calvin you tried to imply the story was fabricated and everyone was a gullable fool for believing it but this stuff was put on HER own myspace site
Mike, Poole,
This stupid, stupid creature doesn't actually seem to acknowledge that she broke the law and put other people's lives in danger by driving drunk.
Where's the petition saying "send her to prison for longer"?!
Sarah, Kent,
What a narcissist! Jail awaits.
Kevin Chang, Auckland, New Zealand
Do not send her to jail, let her clean rooms in one of the Hilton hotels.
David Nigel Braham, Milan, Italy
Paris who? Her 5 minutes of fame is up. As a human being she deserves the same punishment as other fellow human beings. If you break the law you have to pay for it. Ignorance is not an excuse.
Camelia, London, UK
A l'échafaud!!! Qu'on lui coupe le col!!!
...which for the benefit of the uneducated means: send her to the scaffold...! The guillotine!!! It wouldn' be a great loss. She can do without a head anyway. She never used her brain. That is... if she ever had one!
Sheri Ze Frog, Vienne, Frogland (France)
45 days without a pap shot of Paris................................. wont somebody please think of the children
orla, limerick,
I'm strangely impressed. This takes self-absorbtion to a level that I never knew existed. I'm looking forward to seeing her spending 45 days in jail though. Can we start an alternat petition asking Arnie to make sure she serves her full sentence?
Simon, Birkenhead, UK
Paris, dahling, how disgusting. These people and their base comments!! They have obviously never heard that 'rank has its privileges' and you (truly) are above the law. After all, it isn't as though you were driving with an unfortunate 10 year old attached to your front bumper. (There wasn't, was there?) And, actually, his life would have been mundane and lived totally out of our circle. Tell Mums, to keep her chin up...oh, wait, her doc does that (silly me!) and let's do lunch soon. Smooches, Muffy
Sara Ambler, Greenfield, Indiana
K-jay.....the governor of California is not sending Paris to jail. The judge is. Get your facts right.
M, London,
The bimbo has the money for a chauffer and therefore no reason to be asking for sympathy or a lighter sentence.
Daid Thijm, Stourbridge, UK
Paris Hilton.......
No class. No intelligence. No maturity. No beauty. No actress. No singer. No model. No role model. No talent. No knickers. No modesty. No pride. No shame. No hope.
Jimmy, Nottingham, U.K.
If Paris had been a black muslim or dreadlocked rastafarian male delinquent, jail would not even have been considered. She is being excessively punished by the ignorance of the not so lucky. Sack the judge!
John Ross, Alicante, Spain
We need who?
Debbie, Bognor Regis, UK
Paris Hilton should be put away for good, even if she hasn't broken any laws ! She is a waste of oxygen, whose only claim to fame is a family name and an amateur porn video.
Sorry, Paris, you are wrong, nobody "needs" you .
Abid Khan, Milton Keynes,
The public need Paris Hilton like they need a hole in the head. The media feed off her image and the young are brainwashed to beleive she's an icon of our age. And if she really is...God help us!
Jackie, Didymoteichon, Greece
Anyone else think she looks like a tranny?
I'm only sorry she won't be making my license plates.
They're putting her on the 'vanity plate' line!
Mary Catherine, Elmhurst, US
What, "sihn it"? Paris Hilton needs a dictionary. "My public needs me"... I agree... the judge should have sentenced this court jester to Clown School, not jail.
Shirley Jackson, Oliver, BC, Canada
What breathtaking arrogance! "Mundane" lives? Well thank you very
much Miss Hilton for being such an inspiration and perfect role model
to all of us 'commoners'. She should get much more than a few days in
jail. If anyone else had broken the law in this way they would stand no
chance of getting off lightly. She should not be treated any differently.
John, London, U.K.
Is there any possible way that once she's locked inside her cell that the California Penal System could manage to loose the key?
Jim, River Forest, USA / IL
Despite the money, it's obvious that Paris is sorely wanting in education and common sense.
"She provides hope for young people all over the U.S. and the world. She provides beauty and excitement to (most of) our otherwise mundane lives." - you cannot be serious!!!???
I'm happy with my mundane life, thank you very much!
May, Edinburgh,
She was doomed when she showed up to court 10 MINS late. That shows her total lack of respect for the judge who was deciding her fate. Not a smart move Paris! And she didn't understand the terms of her probation because no one really told her (I have people who read my mail!!) OH PLEASE!!! She can't possibly be this dumb, can she??? Everyone knows you can't drive on a suspended license. And why weren't her parents coaching her if she really is that dumb? They certainly knew. But Mrs. Hilton railed at the judge protesting the harsh sentence--she is definitely part of the problem and has lost my respect, along with her daughter's. What purpose does Paris have in this life anyway? What does she do? Grow up Paris! Look at some of your peers out there in California such as Angelina Jolie (GoodWill ambassador for UN Refugee Agency) and George Clooney (creating awareness of the genocide in Darfur). Do something good for someone else, and quit asking for public sympathy!
Larem, DeGraff, OH
I Think that paris should face up to what she has done she is not different and no less or more than a normally person , normal people would not be allowed to ask people (aka paris fans) to keep them out of jail neither should paris i think this is a selfish act and i think it would do her good to carry her sentence out.Get some back bone paris !
Nadia, Soth Shields,
Paris Hilton is a nobody without that last name. She contributes nothing to society or the world. It's disgusting that people like Saint Anna Nicole and Ms. Hilton get so much press. They are so UN-important compared to just about anyone else. I would be quite happy to never hear their names again.
R. Laughlin, Lawrence, Kansas
Paris, Darling, that's so sweet and thoughtful of you to be concerned about my otherwise mundane life! But no - this time, you think of yourself and sashay your little overexposed buns down to see the nice people at the jail. Think how much your presence will mean to THEIR mundane lives. Since your life is all about giving to the public, no one needs you more than the downtrodden currently serving time. Thank you Paris for taking over caring for the people much like that wrinkly ol' Mother Teresa (She was totally not hot...)
schek, Stevens Point, WI
I would not be surprised if most of the "stars" in Hollywood believed the same way as Paris does about us common folk.
Chris, Richmond, VA
I don't think Paris has any blood flowing to parts above the neck. This is unbelievable that people would think she deserves a pardon. She is no one special. Send here to jail and do no pass Go.
Brian Bell, Gainesville, FL, USA
because of money you believe you should not go to jail .. power and wealth can save you .it makes your crime above the law ? then what crimes should you go to jail for ? or do you feel you can do what you want and let the money get you out . if girls follow you and look up to you as a role model than they need to look in other places so they won't ride the same train as you and be processed in a wreck
mario, moody, al
Unfortunately as satisfying as it is to see her cast down and the enormity of her Hubris releaved to the world, in 45 days time she will return to pollute the minds of my generation once again. Bemoaning the injustice of her 'ordeal' with a book tour and movie franchise no doubt.
Gary Bissett, Melbourne, Australia
"She provides beaut and excitement to (most of) our othwise mundane lives."
What will I do for the 45 days she is gone, oh wow is me.
A.J., Bellefontine, Ohio
Celebrity or not, justice is blind and all should stand equal before the eyes of the law. If a judicial system could have its ruling overturned by a bunch of signatures in a petition wanting the guilty free from jail time in order that his or her presence may rid the monotony in their lives, it is the most ridiculous indeed. I do not see how she should be treated any differently from any others who may have committed the same crime. Furthermore, it is only for a period of 45 days -- not as though it's a life term. Perhaps this will make her realize what money can't buy.
Lester, Singapore, Singapore
Whether she serves time in jail or not, this will just add to her notoriety, which she seems to crave. She will continue to have her cadre of well-paid lawyers and blind followers, and yes I agree, more reality shows so I would not consider her a victim.
For only in America is "white trash" so glorified to new heights. All that money just does not buy class and good breeding. There are other heiresses far better looking, more educated and far wealthier than ParisHilton. I just don't see the fascination over this "innkeeper's descendant." America's youth has better role models.
AK, New York, USA
My daughters learned early that there are consequences for your behavior. You made a choice to get into and drive your car while exceeding the alcohol limit of your state...the judge made a ruling that was a consequence for your behavior. Is this too difficult to comprehend? While you're incarcerated, maybe you can reflect on your choices...
ron Hicinbothem, shokan, USA/New York
3 years is a long time to stay out of trouble, maybe she'll get to go back sometime for a longer stay than 45 days.
topher, eureka, ca
Paris is a wonderful and beautiful human being. She should absolutely not be sent to prison by the governor. We think (that's me and my friends) that Paris should stand for governor, that would show him who is more popular - SHE IS!! If Paris goes to the state pen then people will be very upset and they won't forget what this governor did, NOT EVER!!
k-jay, Bel-Air, CA
Going to the L.A. County jail for 45 days will bring beauty and excitement to the other inmates and those of us watching from home....
thanks for all you do Paris
Scott Buchanan, philadelphia, PA
Paris, Paris, Paris.... Everything is temporary. Worry Not! You need this more than your nightlife. You'll be thanking the judge a few years down the road and laughling about it. Enjoy your 45 stay at hilton, well, think of this as an opportunity.
Joe R. , San Jose, CA
Don't worry, peeps, there might be a petition to keep her out of jail, but there are FAR more petitions that want her locked up for a very long time.
starling, Lancaster,
My life can stand to be mundane for 45 days,in fact, I would not even notice, considering I can't tell Paris Hilton from my neighbor...
Christopher, Suffolk, USA/ New york
The petition states "She provides beauty and excitement to (most of) our otherwise mundane lives" At least for 45 days she will.
Richard, Edmonton, Canada
What kind of HOPE she does provide??
I HOPE she serves her time. I HOPE she has to perform community service as well. I HOPE she grows up!!!
Lynne, San Dimas,
Hilarious! I can't stop giggling. Is Paris Hilton for real?
Anthony Bourne, Hove, England
Anyone who thinks Paris Hilton "isn't any better than anyone else" or that she "is the same as us" is totally wrong. She is.
She is RICH! In this country that buys you protection from the law and special rights other citizens don't enjoy.
If I went to jail for 45 days I would lose my job (for sure,) my house (most likely) and my professional licenses.
If Paris goes to jail what happens? Nothing, when she gets out she finds some disgusting way to capitalize on "how poorly treated I was, and how they wouldn't let my masseus see me and how I couldn't get a pedicure or a manicure..." Then she gets a chaffeur to drive her around and nothing changes.
Even if found guilty and sent to sail nothing will change. When she gets out she will still enjoy things (like money, housing, transportation) that most of us never have and never will have (at least not like she has.)
nisleib, Austin, TX
Why should she get out of doing jail time because she's a celebrity. Celebrities are not above the law. She should've been done for drink driving in the first place and not just given a driving ban. Why didn't she ask daddy for a driver so she wouldn't have to drive while banned.
Fiona, Dublin, Ireland
Is there to be a new plea in our justice system?
Guilty, Not Guilty and now ...
"Guilty but Pardonable by reason of celebrity"?
I think NOT!
Andrea Mitchell, Salt Lake City, Utah
Paris Hilton should abide by the law and serve her time in Jail.
She needs to understand, realise and face the consequences of the choices she makes.
She thinks that she can get away with anything just because her parents are rich and famous. I wonder what she does for her living? I dont think anyone really feels sorry for her going to Jail.Instead people like me are gald that she is given a chance to mature and be a good role model in the society by serving a short term in jail.
Suresh, Tulsa, OK
My daughter is going to spread happiness and joy in an otherwise grey and mundane jail.
I'm so proud of her.
Rick Hilton, New York,
I am assuming that Paris is (in fact) not serious but instead being controversial in order to attract more publicity....if so, she has succeeded beyond her wildest dreams
natasha, stourbridge, UK
Take away money and status and what do u get? An ordinary "mundane" girl. To even consider asking people to sign a petition shows how desperate she really is. If she doesn't do the time, she will never learn her lesson. Drink driving isn't something trivial!!
Nikaila B, Leicester, UK
You know what really surprises me, how so many respondents are willing to believe the most ugly reporting about someone without verification or any other kind of measure. She is a performer, she is an actress she is a saleswoman selling an imaginary image called Paris Hilton.
Please people growup.
The responses I see say alot about the writers and nothing about Paris the daughter or Paris the young woman.
And she is that! Someone's daughter.
Calvin George, Curepe, Trinidad
...She provides hope for all young people...blah, blah, blah....
I've never heard anything so ridiculous in my entire life.
She is guilty, so, send her down. In this particular instance, I'll accept the mundane, thank you.
Colin M, Norwich, UK
I think she should get the entire summer in jail! Then, she should be made to pick up trash along the side of the highway in one of those orange jumpsuits. Those are the only pix of her I'd like to see!
As for her pleading to Gov Arnie, if he does grant her a pardon, his political career is done.
Randi, Westwood, USA
I hope I'm not the only one who's insulted by Paris essentially saying that my life is 'mundane'! That statement in itself is enough to underscore her arrogance and disconnect from reality. As a California resident, I will hang my head in shame over our judicial system if this petition is taken seriously by any member of our government!
Monica M., San Francisco , U.S., CA
If you're gonna do the crime, be prepared to do the time. Should be a good wake up call for her.
Roy, Durham, NC
Wow, a lot of people want to see her suffer. Just review the facts
1) She did not word the petition and use the "mundane" word - one of her deluded fans did. She only said a few words of support to promote it.
2) This was not a 2nd offence of drunk driving, this was being stopped for having no headlights, sober, when the officer discovered she was banned.
I just hope she gets the same justice any of the rest of us would, and I'm glad a lot of the people commenting here aren't deciding what that should be. She is the same as the rest of us in the end, so why is it a suprise she would want to escape a scary thing like prison by simply supporting this position with a few words?
Niall, Dublin, Ireland.
What's hilarious about this is that the publicity has helped to prompt a number of 'Keep Paris in Jail' petitions to be started on the same ipetitions.com website. And the last time I looked, votes for 'jailing' seemed to be outnumbering the votes for 'not jailing' by some considerable margin.
It seems the public don't need you after all, Paris. Ouch. That's gotta hurt.
Dave Judgement, Norwich, East Anglia, UK
Hilton's Hanoi Hilton stay! Cell Phone, Cable, recreation, daily visitation, all included! The poor poor girl!
I had one DUI 7 yrs ago and I did 3 days in jail, got my car impounded, and cost me around 1200 bucks. ON MY FIRST TIME!
I had no cell phone or visitation, lost my job... and my license for 1yr.
Let the "@#@*" do her time and stop crying!
Leda
leda, ORLANDO, USA / FLORIDA
I'll be VERY surprised if PWH does go to jail. The main difference between her and the 'common' folk is she has access to lawyers and resources to appeal every aspect of her case.
Also, if she can prove that people in similar situations were sentenced to less or no time for the same or similar violations (she was caught speeding while on a suspended licence for dui), she can get the time reduced or even erased.
The strike against her is she very well knew she wasn't supposed to be driving while 'on paper,' which may make a sympathetic ear harder to come by on appeal.
trent, Millwaukee,
For her to "provide hope for young people all over the U.S. and the world" she'd have to donate her penny cash to some charity fund, not spend it on a new pair of sunshades. And if "She provides beauty and excitement . ." to anyones life (except maybe her own) I feel sorry for that person. Anyway: This young person (I was going to write "lady", but heck, that felt WRONG) needs to grow up, take the pink shades off and see the world she's apparantly NOT living in. You commit a crime? Pay for it. Stupidity does not save anyone from the law. Ignorance appears to be bliss... And the people do NOT need her out of jail. They need the hard working soldiers back home, who risk their lives to save her sorry --- rear end. I am wondering... is she a 2 year old in a twenty-somethings body?
Verena, Oberhausen, Germany
I think everybody is missing the obvious here. Paris can serve her time AND still provide us with her beauty and excitement for our mundane lives. We come up with a new reality show, something like Paris gets slammed in the slammer. Mount multiple cameras in her jail cell, exercise yard, shower etc. and have a nightly show. Who knows, we might even rehabilitate some of the other inmates so they can have new carriers as reality TV stars when they get out. Any networks out there listening. Top ratings guaranteed. Im willing to sell the idea real cheap!
MAC, Naples, FL
I think her point is proved. Seventy people have chimed in on this topic, compared to less than ten for any news of economic, political or intellectual note. I hope her supporters print these comments as proof of society's depedence on her dalliances.
milf, los angeles, usa
Well i've heard apparently that she is scared of what inmates will do to her so i don't think she gives a monkeys about her fans. I think its all just a way to gain support from people to be freed. Also i think she deserves the penalty and punishment just as much as any other human being as she is nothing more special apart from having a lot of money and an oversized ego, which is not even a plus. All i can say is a well deserved punishment to bring someone spoilt back on track.
J, leics, uk
Her parents are to blame for allowing her to be raised in such a clueless, unaware, insulated environment in which there is no such word as "responsibility."
Steve, Lake Havasu City, USA/Arizona
Her arrogance is unbelievable, To release her would only add to her arrogance, Which is already out of control. A lesson is in order here. Enough said....
t harman, santa cruz, ca
She should behave like a grownup and not a pampered princess. Even though you may have publicists and "handlers" you are still responsible to read legal papaers, no matter how priviledged you are---ignore the small stuff, pay the consequences. I am sure that the judge did not give her a monetary fine, because money means very little to her, a fine would not impact her at all
RP, Tokyo, Japan
My only fear is being flooded by the 'paris exclusives' of 'behind-the-bars' footage, the HBO made-for-tv movie, the book and equally trite and vaccuous garbage that will spawn like a parasite and fill our 'mundane lives' to the brink.
obviously i don't want anybody killed for this pseudo-celebrity tramp, but if she does ever end up drink-driving and killing somebody, please let it be in a state that supports the death penalty.
paris, meet the real world. it bites.
chris, London,
I for one still have hope....that this spoiled young girl grows up just a little during her brief 45 days in jail (time off for good behavior...if she is good)
Also that those who perversly idolize this stellar example of a clueless obnoxious boor also grow up a little as they see the well deserved results of unacceptable, illegal and dangerous stupidity.
blan, gren, NJ
Paris is no different than anyone else who breaks the law. If she wants to set an example for young people then she should simply do her time.
Bruce, Franklin, YN
She strikes me a kind of precious thinking that people need celebrity more than air. As if they wouldn't get on with their "mundane" lives while she sits in the can.
Buddhafation, Osaka, Japan
Is there to be a new plea in our justice system?
Guilty, Not Guilty and now ...
"Guilty but Pardonable by reason of celebrity"? I think NOT!
Andrea Mitchell, Salt Lake City, Utah
She should go to jail she is not above the law. Just because she is rich doesn't mean she is smart she is extremely dumb to do what she did. She feels her money can buy her out of jail it shouldn't. If it does the court system is in shambles.
Lynn, Fort Lauderdale, FL
I'm sure Paris will bring beauty and excitment to the jail house too. She won't be a bad influence on the other girls there but maybe on the guards.
Rick Barker, San Jose, CA
I like to think that I provide beauty and excitement to the general public too. But my most egregious traffic violation is a speeding ticket of which I have paid for via insurance and the courts. This overly self indulgant wanna be blonde needs to understand that this is America, not Paris-Hilton-land.
Rachel, Baltimore,
Who cares! Drunk driving isn't wrong, getting drunk in the 1st place is!, and that's not illegal! Let this country reap what it sows! Really nobodys elses buisiness! Get a life people, or wake up, how about both!
Matthew, boise, ID.
I say we send her two years to a man's prison with a video crew and donate
the proceeds of the attendant video sales to the families of drunken driving
victims.
Eugene, Heidelberg, germany
Surely Paris is not expecting to get out of this because she's a self proclaimed socialite? Like the rest of us in this world, be accountable sweetie, learn from your mistakes and grow up for a change. I'm sick of seeing you mug in the tabloids anyway. I'd love to hear a good jail house story instead. I'm certain I am not alone in this.
Karen, New Haven, Connecticut
I just hope that she will be incommunicado for the full 45 days.
B. Rooney, Toronto, Canada
I'n not entirely sure that you can put an Inflato-Doll in prison for 45 days.
Jim Foy, West Islip, NY / USA
If it was the first time ok then maybe I could see where a pardon is in order, but it's not the first time!! I read an article that said she gives her fans hope.....Hope for what? Driving drunk and getting away with it??? The only hope I see is that she does her time and quits acting like nothing can stop her. She could have easliy killed someone, would she be asking for this pardon if that was the case? Alot of people go away for alot less than what she did, I think no matter who you are if break the law you break the law, that is why we have them, to protect people. This should be one time to let the famous know money can't buy everything.
Sabrina , Madison, IN
So, Paris...you think my life is mundane. Well, I tell you what - why don't you write me from your new living quarters in about a month and we'll talk about whose life is mundane. I am a mother of 3 teenagers and, believe me, you offer no hope to anyone. Just a slight, queasy feeling in one's stomach at the sight of you! I am just glad we don't have to see you for 45 days! Ba BYE!
Kathi VonAllmen, Rockland, ME
I think 45 days isn't enough. What kind of example is she setting for our daughters. Paris and all her imature, slut friends need to wake up and grow up. They act as if drugs, sex and booze are all ok habits to have. They are self destructive and driving impaired puts other everyday peoples live at risk. I would like to see her go to rehab, do community service, be on probation and serve her 45 days. The world did fine before paris and will do fine after Paris. Her ego is out of control.
diana, jacksonville, USA/Florida
Well now that she's called us mundane and boring, I'm sure her adoring public will abandon her. Just leave us be and let the world be a better place without Paris Hilton in it.
Sam, Eau Claire, Wisconsin
How awful.....snicker..............poor thing..........chuckle...........reputation shot...............heh heh...........mean ol judge................lol....................life ruined.............Lmao.................how dare we...............Rofl..............Kathy will have our ass's for this..........cackle................bring back the OJ jury.....................har har..................HAR-DE-HAR-HAR
Lance Ito, Millville , NJ
"Paris Whitney Hilton is an American celebrity and socialite. She is an heiress to a share of the Hilton Hotel fortune, as well as to the real estate fortune of her father Richard Hilton. She provides hope for young people all over the U.S. and the world."
You mean we all still have the "hope" that we'll be born as spoiled little rich girls? WOW!!! I guess this is yet another "born again" idea.
Joe, Hebron, CT, USA
I'm just not sure how my mundane life can go on without the beauty and glorious inspiration of the drunken party animal Paris. Life is so dreary without the shining example of Paris driving under the influence. After all, those in the path of her drunken driving would probably consider it a privilege to be run over by her wonderfulness. Think what beauty and excitement that would bring to their lives!!
Carl Allen, raleigh, nc
Maybe Arnie could help her get her wish to provide beauty and excitement to the people's otherwise mundane lives.
He should change her sentence to a mens prison...
That would definitely bring some excitement to their lives - especially the showers...
J.Holmes, Kalamazoo, MI, USA
You committed a crime dopey do the time and get over it. All us
"mundane" people must be doing something wrong, oh that's
right we don't drink and drive and if we do we cop what ever
punishment is handed out to us. We also read what is put in
front of us before we sign. 45 days without alcohol, drugs and
sex is this the real reason for the patition that you will miss
having or is it because you will be in a class lower than the
mundane people of the world.
Tony, Sydney, Australia
She needs a reality check and I personally feel that 45 days inside isn't enough. Double the sentence.
Drink drivers make me sick.
Jamie Stapleton, Worthing, UK
i think that she should have had more time honestly she a litle rich bitch that needs to grow up i hat ehow celebrities are treated so much better than us they wouldn't even be celebrities without us so she needs to think about that we made her and can break her.
nichole, tulksa, oklahoma
Can someone start a petition to insure she serves
the 45 days? Let's KPIJ (keep Paris in Jail),
Joe, Arlington Heights, Il
Paris Hilton = total waste of human protoplasm and bad taste incarnate. Done nothing in her so-called "life" except being famous for being famous. I was driving through Mexico City last week: huge billboard of her and her new perfume, I almost hurled.
Eduardo Molinillo, Cuernavaca, Morelos, MX
WHY isn't MADD involved in this?
What's she going to say when (God forbid) she kills someone.....OOOPS?!
Donna, Field of Dreams, Iowa
Grow up little girl. Maybe if your locked up for real for 45 days you will see that life can be lived without booze, sex or partying all night long. Money does not buy happiness ,hard work and effort to be a productive human just might.
Your money should not buy you out of your troubles. There is just one question to ask. Did you or did you not drive on a suspended licenses?
susan Freemond, Phila, Pa
I had a DUI and lost my PRIVLEDGE to drive for 7 months. I lost my job and had to take one for less money, struggled with bills, and was at the mercy of others to food shop, get to work and even get my hair cut. You know what? I DESERVED IT and not once in those 7 months did I attempt to operate a vehicle. It was a very difficult time and unlike Paris I do not have millions that would have allowed me to hire a driver and go on with my life. She is no different than the rest of us--maybe jail will teach her that money does not mean you can break the law and get away with it. The public needs her? No the public needs the soldiers that were almost killed at Fort Dix. Get a grip Paris you are not that important to anyone.
Anonymous, Voorhees , NJ
What a ridiculous petition. Hey when you think you are above the law and break it.... face the consequences! What this girl needs is a strong reality check and a reminder that money will not buy you EVERYTHING!!!! Even if you are an "heiress" This whole petition and reasoning why she should not go to jail is so out of touch with reality. We have a war going ON ... get a GRIP
Jenn 27, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
jenn, Ft. lauderdale,
i think its terrible that paris thinks she can get away with this just because she is a celebrity. if this were any normal person there would be no quetioning this sentence. i say let her serve her time and maybe she might wake up and decide to start behaving like a responsible adult instead of expecting to have everything handed to her on a plate and acting like a silly little girl !!!
joanne reid, edinburgh, scotland
She is nothing but a spoiled little rich girl that thinks the world revolves around her. Its time to grow up and face the fact that she cant always get her way. She is actually being treated better then us so called little people. She had more then one chance and she still drove, and she can stop playing the dumb blond, she knew she wasnt suppose to drive but did it anyway. Anyone else wouldnt have gotten a second chance. It time to grow up Paris and stop living off of mommy and daddy. Shes 26 years old and still acts like a little girl.
Terri, La Porte, Indiana
Oh lord, this is hilarious. She is not being used 'as an example of how drunk driving is wrong'. She broke the bloody law. She needs to pay the penalty. I'm hoping that even Arnie has the sense to see that.
And if, as she claims, she does indeed provide hope and excitement for young people (speaking as a young person, she generally causes me to despair, but hey), that's even more reason for her to spend time in jail. Her 'fans' need to realise (as she does) that driving under the influence is not only illegal but highly dangerous.
Personally, I think Paris Hilton should be shot for being so damn irritating. But sadly, I'm not a judge.
Helen, Dublin, Ireland
Let's all hope the sentence isn't overturned. Perhaps then we can have 45 Paris-free days. I'm not sure that she had the intelligence needed to "reflect on her life" as Wayne suggests. It's pathetic the trash we raise to the level of celebrity in society these days.
Heather S., Albany, USA/ NY
She is no exception to the law !!! she knew what she was doing. Who does she think she is ???? she did the crime, now she MUST do the time !!
Colin T Cardiff UK
colin, cardiff, uk
This is all just mad. I'm sure those people whose lives are filled with Paris' beauty can wait 45 days and carry on enjoying it when she gets out of prison.
Jo, Notts,
I am roughly the same age as Paris Hilton. Im sure that if i was ever put in her situation no-one wouls give two hoots whether i went to prison or not! at the end of the day she should not expect to avoid the few days prison sentence just because she has a big ego of herself. Would she also be let off if she killed someone while Drink driving without a licence?
Sarah, East Anglia, UK
Give Me A Break!!!
Steve, Orlando,
She's nothing but a rich kid with too much time and money on her hands. Her jail time will provide just as much entertainment to the "young people all over the U.S. and the world" as any of her other antics have. The hope she can provide to the public is the proof that the American justice system works, no matter who your daddy is. If all you have to do is get a bunch of teenagers to sign a petition to get you out of jail, then something is seriously wrong with that system.
Dyanne Brown, Tsumeb, Namibia
I think the young people of the world will survive for 45 days without Paris Hilton.
Craig J. Conklin, Lowell, Michigan
Dear Paris,
Don't be afraid to grow up! Your born with a silver spoon in your mouth and THAT is all you have to your credit.
It's only 45 days! The next time might be a little longer.
Be happy you didn't kill someone with your car (hopefully you know that's against the law)
Doug, Milwaukie, Oregon
Paris Hilton is the ultimate in poor little rich girl. Maybe the prison time is harsh for what she has done but it could be the best thing that has ever happened in her ridiculously innane life.
If ever there was an example of how money does NOT buy happiness - this is IT.
Gabrielle
Gabrielle, Auckland,
What breathtaking arrogance!
John, London,
I say home incarceration at my place. Not sure I could take 45 days of her though. Five or four sounds about right.
Josh, Louisville, KY
Maybe a dose of responsibility and having to be held accountable to the laws the rest of us must obey would be good for this pompous and spoiled brat. With any luck she will drop off the radar screen of "entertainment" and have to get a real job.
Jim Phelps, Danbury, USA NH
paris has more than enough money to employ a driver for her nights out . imagine if someone in her family was injured or killed by a drink driver .the law is for everyone even spoiled primadonna's.I hope her sentence is increased.
michael harper, sydney, australia
I find it offensive on how Paris, someone rich and famous, can have their way of being pardoned while some are not presented with the advantage of being pardoned. I say she serves the time, acts mature, and accepts the fact that she broke a law which has existed for a very long time.
David Yi, South Korea,
Hey Paris.,
This petition of yours is totally non-sense and indicates how childish you are......AND celebrities don't plead the public for pardons. So enjoy the 45-day sentence.
Vivek, Chennai, India
The truth is the wealthy in the United States do enjoy a different legal system than the poor, and by the comments posted, that rankles. If you do not like the absurd corruption of the justice system to a legal system, go to the polls and change the system. Until you do, the wealth will continue to walk.
Jim, Chattanooga, TN
Let our Paris off... So she's not your image of a perfect celebraty, but she sure doesnt deserve this punishment. Don't turn her into something you can amuse yourself with by seeing her go to jail. Please find a different way to solve this situation.
Vanstone, Appleton, WI
She gives me what? Beauty and excitement?
Hahaha! She hasn't given me squat.
I spent six months locked up in jail for something I didn't even do.
She can handle 45 days.
Actually I'll be surprised if the primmed and pampered Paris spends two weeks locked up. She'll start crying and talking cash and be out in lickety split.
Thozz, Cleveland, Ohio
Her appeal just makes me laugh.
Catherine, Salt Lake City, Utah
I feel awful. I hadn't realised Paris Hilton was giving me hope. What do I have left to live for?
What really bothers me though is that people might actually consider letting anyone of drink driving. People die that way every year - and not just the ones who have been drinking either.
If Paris wants to provide hope and an example to us, she's going the wrong way about it. What she needs is not a change of sentence, but a change in attitude.
Meg, Pembs,
Hope you enjoy the 45 days, bad example to all youths around the world...disastrous, spoilt roll model....your money does not make you anymore 'special' then the average Joe.
As the old saying goes, 'Don't do the crime, if you can't do the time!!!'
Cheerio
Andrea Sammut, Malta,
What about the poor families lives that are devistated by the drunk drivers who kill their children and family members! She should be taught a lesson before someone is hurt. She should be responsible for her actions, not above the law!
Chris, West Chester, OH
People all round the world are dying or being murdered though wars and starvation and we all seam to be obsessed with the miner celebrity what is the values of these so called stars they do nothing for society expect titillate or give us fish and chip paper but i suppose it must sell tabloids somebody still buys into it but not me of course anyway my public await.
TOM, DUNDEE, SCOTLAND
The petitioner should join her in jail instead of collecting signatures. To save her from jail is an insult to all those who are law abiding citizens. I hope she'll enjoy her cell and will be an inmate model.
Imor Bolos, Manila, Philippines
I am most definitely insulted! The only hope she has brought to my life is the hope that she can take responsibility for HER actions. It was HER responsibility to understand the terms of HER probation. It's a lesson that she needs to learn. The court IS NOT making an "example" of her, it is merely holding her to the same standard as a blue-collar worker. I don't see how this girl can honestly be an inspiration to anyone, except 15 year old boys watching "One night in Paris".. ring, ring Paris- life is calling for you to grow up!
Allen, Dixon, MO
So it's okay to break the law as long as you provide beauty and excitement to people's lives?
Nick , Minneapolis, MN
Paris, Just who in the world is she? Paris does not provide hope for Papua New Guineans. You have done nothing that helped changed the world we leave in. In fact, I believe people like you who have no respect for your body would not even have any respect for law at all. Just a reminder, no body is above the law and if this is your sentence, serve your time. Its only 45 days and it might teach you some valuable lesson that your parents have failed to impart.
Charles Wagambio, Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea
Eddie, St Paul, I shouldn't have to give up reading/watching to avoid seeing pictures of this shallow woman, and neither should anyone else. The pursuit of celebrity has gone to far. No problem with someone being famous for a skill, talent or commendable action but just for being famous or being good at taking calls when having sex?........ it's your world you have a responsibility for how it turns out.
iain, Norwich,
Arnie should increase the penalty to death by mudwrestling. That would really provide more excitement to our otherwise mundane lives. Hasta la vista, baby!
Nick Hoho, Belfast, UK
i want to know if she will be put in solitary and what the hell will happen to her if she is not, definitely it will add even more excitment to "...our otherwise mundane lives...".
david c, sydney, australia
its a pity paris doesnt go to prison for longer provides beauty and entertainment? more like something to laugh at when theres nothing on tv she has nothing worthwhile to offer anyone and is a disgusting example of a female. she g
