I've beein living in the UK for a year and a half, and I feel that the service here is virtually non-existent. There's a fundamental difference between a Confucius culture and a culture where individualism is at the forefront. So much effort goes into making things work the way they do in Japan.

My wife isn't Japanese, but she's Asian and we met in Dubai before moving back to the UK 4 years ago. She is from the Banking industry at the top customer services level. Ever since we settled here she seems to find the customer services rendered by UK companies, well below expectation.

My wife too happens to be Japanese, but that aside, some cultural realism needs apply here. For sure, the British could learn from Japan's sense of national identification - while avoiding their xenophobia against the "gaizins" (even if only with 1.6% foreign-born and most of them Koreans)
anthony, nyc, us
My wife is Japanese and informs me that the UK has 'lost the plot'. We pay ourselves too much money for providing a second rate service. Even though we think that we are more of a service industry nowadays, we hold little or no concept about what the term service means.

I'm not pro Japanese at all, but I have to admit that as a nation, they make the best products, have the best education and the highest investment in R&D in the world. Groups also share their assets with their employees with great benefits, (I was in Hiroshima on my 50th., and 55th. birthdays).
