Liverpool have given Portsmouth permission to begin talks with Peter Crouch,
after the clubs agreed a fee for the England forward.
Portsmouth's bid, thought to be in the region of £11 million, has been
accepted and Liverpool have confirmed they have reached a verbal agreement
for the transfer of the former Southampton forward. Harry Redknapp is
expected to begin negotiations with Crouch this week.
"We have reached a verbal agreement with Portsmouth and have given them permission to speak with Peter," a Liverpool spokesman confirmed.
It is thought Portsmouth had a bid of £9m turned down earlier in the summer, but now appear to have beaten off competition from Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United, who are also thought to have made substantial bids.
Crouch joined the Anfield club in the summer of 2005 and has scored 42 goals in 135 games for the club.

i rwally hate to see crouch go he was unused too much hes done his job on numerous occasions and thats scoring goals thats wat we want isnt it and plus who tores' backup plan if he gets injured its not gonna be voronin we need a striker and fast.
michael, liverpool, england
No need for other players for liverpool. Get Crouch and Babel together on the pitch as the game begins with gerrard and barry and Torres, you'll see. Why keeping them under used. I can't really see why? Come on the reds. Raffa should be a bit more ofensive this season. This is the way to win premier

I agree with Stephen - I really cant believe that they would want to sell off crouch. OK he has his faults, but as a second option, i think he is great
Tht height certainly has some advantages!!
Perhaps the money is needed for Barry, but when Torress is injured, who is the fall back plan now?

Crouch can´t compete with Torres. He would be a good second option for refreshing the second times, but he doesn´t want to be in the bench.
Good luck Peter!

This is the worst move Liverpool have made in the Benitez era. Crouch is a very talented player but is inexplicably maligned for reasons beyond me. I can think of a number of fringe players that should be sold before you even mention his name. I hope it doesn't come back to haunt them next season.
