Rafael Nadal pulls out of Stuttgart Cup

Rafael Nadal will not defend his Mercedes Cup title in Stuttgart this week in order to rest a knee injury. The Spaniard, who beat five-time winner Roger Federer in yesterday's epic men's singles final at the All England Club, tweaked his knee during his third-round match against Mikhail Youzhny.

Although it did not stop him going on to claim the title, Nadal has been advised to rest by doctors, and the 22-year-old flew to Germany to apologise in person to tournament organisers

"My doctors have said I need a couple of days rest," Nadal said. "I will now get examined for an exact diagnosis. I only want to return to the court once I am 100 per cent fit."
